6 Reasons Why Your Makeup Could Be Causing Acne

When you suffer from acne or have an occasional pimple, we generally rely on our makeup to cover up the problem, but did you know your makeup may actually be causing your acne!? Yes, you heard that right!

Here are 6 ways your makeup could be causing your breakouts:

  1. Don’t keep makeup on overnight. Make sure to wash all traces of makeup off of you before you hit the sack. Not only will washing your face at night remove any dirt and oil buildup, but it will get off the makeup that could clog your pores overnight.
  2. Check the labels. Only choose makeup labeled noncomedogenic. This means that the makeup doesn’t contain ingredients that are known to clog pores.
  3. Clean or replace applicators often. Reducing the amount of bacteria that your skin is exposed to is a great way to reduce acne, and your applicators are bacteria breeding grounds! Take a few minutes at least once a week to give them a good cleaning. You can also choose to use disposable applicators and just toss them once a week and use new ones.
  4. Ditch the liquids. Most liquid makeups contain an oil base, which you want to avoid if you have skin prone to acne. Powders are a great alternative and actually will help absorb excess oil!
  5. Switch it up. The brands that is. If you notice your acne is worse after wearing a certain type of makeup, switch it up. Certain makeup can lead to problems on your skin and something as simple as changing the brand you wear can make all the difference in the world.
  6. Go sans makeup. If you can, try going without makeup a couple of days per week. This gives your skin time to breath and refresh. If you can’t bring yourself to do that, take your makeup off when you know you are in for the day so that your skin gets a break for a few hours off and on.

In addition to changing up your makeup habits, you may want to try switching up your cleansers and moisturizers. Our skin care line is great for all skin types, including sensitive skin and acne prone skin. We think you’ll love it!
