Daily Skin Care for Black Men

Taking care of your skin on a daily basis is essential to not only the health of your skin, but it will change how you feel because you will know you are putting your best face forward each and every day. So whether you are 16 or 76, it’s important to take a few extra minutes in the morning and at night to baby your skin and make sure it’s clean and healthy.

Take note of what type of skin you have: dry, oily, sensitive, or combination. This is important because it will dictate what type of products you use. Once you find the products that will work for your skin type, you are ready to start caring for your skin!

Ingrown Hair

Ingrown hair can be a huge problem for people, especially black men. The reason for this is due to the natural curl pattern of the hair. After shaving, the hair is sharp at the end. As the hair grows, that sharp end is directed back at the skin because of your curl pattern. The hair could curl back into the skin and becomes what is known as an ingrown hair. As the hair grows, it becomes very painful. Ingrown hairs lead to bacteria and fluid forming under the skin, which looks like a bump, often mistaken for a pimple. It’s important not to treat it as a pimple however because it will cause dark spots on the skin.

Washing Your Face

It’s very important to wash your face in the morning and before bed. Do this correctly and regularly because it is the most important part of caring for your skin. Washing your skin is important because it helps remove any dead skin cells, bacteria, pollutants, and viruses. Our Clean & Clear Purifying Cleanser works great as a daily wash. It’s best for normal, oily, combination, and acne-prone skin. Try it and you’ll love the results!

Exfoliating Your Face

When your skin seems to need a little extra something to remove blackheads or dead skin, exfoliating is the answer! It’s important to only exfoliate once or twice per week because doing so more frequently will be too harsh on your skin. Find a facial scrub that has gentle exfoliates in it and once your face is wet, lightly apply the scrub to your face using small circular movements. Rinse with cool water.

Toning Your Face

Toners (also known as astringents) are a liquid that you apply to your face after washing that will help to remove any last traces of dirt or residue that were left behind. Toners also help to minimize pores.

Moisturizing Your Face

Moisturizing is a very important final step to caring for your skin because it replenishes any moisture that was lost. Hydrated skin looks youthful, firm, plump, and healthy. Make sure to pay special attention to the area around the eyes because that is where wrinkles tend to first appear. Our Skin-Perfecting Daily Moisturizer is a lightweight hydrating moisturizer that provides optimal hydration all day. It will leave your skin feeling smooth, soft, and moisturized. It also has a non-greasy finish.
