Lemons Add Zest to Your Beauty Routine

Lemons can really flavor up a dish but this little yellow gem can be used in your beauty regimen in many ways. Packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and other compounds, lemons will aid in reducing fat and regulating acidity. Lemons can act as a natural astringent, disinfectant, and as a natural skin and hair lightener. Let’s take a look at the breakdown of how lemons can help us in our health and beauty routines.

Promotes Clear Skin

The astringent properties in lemons work to help people who suffer from oily skin. The lemon will eliminate excess oil production, which will drastically improve your skins appearance. To use on face: before bed, squeeze a lemon and apply the juice to your face using a cotton ball. Do not expose your skin to sunlight after doing this to avoid staining. It’s best to use sunscreen the following day as well.

Eliminates Dry, Cracked Lips

Do your lips look dry and cracked? Try applying lemon juice to your lips before you hit the sack. The lemon juice boosts your lips hydration and will eliminate dead skin cells, leaving you with noticeably softer, kissable lips.

Highlights Hair, Naturally

You may remember doing this for fun as a teenager, but the truth is, it actually works! Give yourself natural highlights by applying lemon juice to your hair and let the sun work its magic. The result will be light, golden highlights. This is a temporary treatment though and needs to be done once per week if you want to keep up the look.

Fights Blackheads

The astringent and antibacterial properties found in lemons make it an ideal candidate for fighting off blackheads. Lemons will eliminate waste and toxins while removing excess oil and deeply cleaning the skin. At night, apply lemon juice to your face and let it sit for 10 minutes; rinse thoroughly with cold water. Just as we mentioned above, it is important not to expose your skin to the sun while the juice is on as it may stain your skin. Apply sunscreen the following day before going out into the sun.

Strengthens and Whitens Nails

Exposure to daily chemicals, water, and other elements can wreak havoc on your nails. They can be left brittle, breaking, and damaged. To strengthen your nails and remove markings, mix a little bit of lemon juice with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and apply to your nails. You’ll marvel at the results!
